Walk with me

My Story

A piece of research has been carried out which has found that on average children who come into care are placed 18 miles from their homes, from support, from all that’s familiar. We at Home for Good would love to be able to grow the pool of carers so that this doesn’t have to be the case. And so this summer we have launched Walk with me to both raise funds to continue and hopefully expand Home for Good’s work but also as this is publicised to bring attention to this fact.

Now this figure refers specifically to England as this is where the research was carried out but we know that the situation in Wales is similar but no such research has been carried out here. One example I heard of though, and you may well know many more, is of three siblings from South Wales having to be placed in Kent in order to keep them together as there were no foster carers available in South Wales to be able to do it – this is heart breaking and has a huge impact upon these children.

And so instead of walking 18 miles I’m going to walk to 19 different 'Trig Points' in South East Wales over the next few weeks in order to both raise money for Home for Good but also to raise awareness of the situation. The reason for 19 and not 18 – just to show that Wales is different to England!

I'd love to encourage you to sign up to this great cause and walk 18 or 19 miles! Or however you may wish to do it!

Alternatively would you please consider sponsoring me?
